Life can be hard, iRest can help

WHAT IS iREST® YOGA NIDRA MEDITATION?

Cheryl Farthing

iRest Yoga nidra is simple, and anyone can learn to do it. It is learnt lying down rather than the more formal meditation practice of sitting, and this helps you to go into a restful state more easily. You are fully guided into a meditative state in which you are neither awake nor asleep and your body is at completely at rest. It feels really great, like you are on the edge of sleep, a blissful kind of zoning out.
It helps you to recognise or discover, the underlying peace of mind that is always present amidst all changing circumstances of life.iRest is integrative as it heals the various unresolved issues, traumas and wounds that are present in the body and mind. From this deep, but conscious place of Being, our brain settles into a meditative state where deep emotional deep healing can take place.  During the practice you are guided to notice physical sensations, breath, emotions and thoughts, but to remain calm in this beautiful spacious stillness. Using the ten-step iRest protocol we often receive insights or emotional resolution or just bask in the deeply nourishing stillness of just being.

As you learn the ten step protocol you can start to use this tools in daily life as a way to learn to respond from a place of inner safety and calmness rather than react. IRest incorporates the tools of mindfulness but goes beyond this, to integrate insight meditation seamlessly. Unlike many well-being process for change, it begins with the principle that nothing is wrong with you. Instead it gives you the tools and helps you to discover what is right with you, that you are much more than you think. It is a deeply spiritual practice but totally secular and can be practice by people of all faiths or none.

iRest stands for integrative restoration and was developed over the last 46 years by clinical psychologist and yogic scholar Dr. Richard Miller. Originally developed  in a US military hospital to treat to help treat Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, it is research based. It takes ancient yogic techniques and blends them beautifully with neuroscience and Western medical knowledge. It is used across the world in yoga studios, hospitals, schools and corporations. It is a trauma-friendly protocol and approved by the US Surgeon General as a holistic practice. iRest is integrative as it heals the various unresolved issues, traumas and wounds that are present in the body and mind.
People using iRest report:
  • Decreased stress, anxiety, fear and depression
  • Decreased insomnia and sleep disturbances
  • Decreased perception of chronic and acute pain
  • Improved interpersonal relations
  • Increased energy levels
  • An increased sense of control in their lives
  • More confidence and joy in their lives
  • A greater sense of peace and well-being
For those that have tried other meditation or mindfulness techniques & failed, this is the approach for you. The iRest training with Cheryl was so relatable, practical & not complicated.... Best of all, iRest meets you where you are at in life & Cheryl has plenty of tips on how to integrate the practices into everyday life to bring the calm when it is needed & not just during a "set" meditating time. I can't recommend it enough.
